eBay Inc. Rallies Employees and Customers to Aid Japan Relief Efforts

In the wake of Japan’s earthquake, tsunami and nuclear crisis, eBay Inc. is responding with numerous donation programs and incentives to donate.
The eBay Foundation is making a $100,000 donation to support relief efforts, providing $50,000 each to Save the Children and the American Red Cross, designated to efforts in Japan. The eBay Foundation is also supporting a special program to match employee donations to relief efforts in Japan. eBay Inc. has made it easy for employees to contribute to select relief organizations .
Through both eBay and PayPal, customers can contribute to relief efforts. More than $1.4 million has been raised as of March 20. Here are some of the ways eBay and PayPal are helping:
• eBay launched Japan Relief eBay Giving Works pages in the U.S. and U.K. to help customers donate to relief agencies through buying and selling items. Standard donation processing fees are waived for these transactions
• PayPal is crediting transactional fees incurred from March 11 to April 10, 2011, to any US 501(c)(3) organization or Canada Revenue Agency registered charity fundraising to aid Japan relief
• PayPal has set up a charity directory page that allows members to contribute to support relief efforts here. Contributors can choose from a range of charities, including Save the Children, and Hands On Tokyo. Another page allows Canadian members to donate to the Canadian Red Cross here. PayPal is covering all processing costs so that 100 percent of the donations reach the charities.
• More than 30,000 additional listings on eBay.com currently support more than 10 charitable organizations providing relief efforts in Japan.
